These are days and weekends where Stuart and Ruth bring together the pastimes of drawing, painting and walking.

They hope that you will enjoy the opportunity to begin a beautiful sketchbook/visual diary on one of their guided walk and draw days and then feel inspired to extend your visit to a second day of informal tuition in their studio. Here you'll be shown how to create a larger finished painting based on one of your new sketches. At the end of this studio day you will leave with a painting to be proud of. We even frame it for you!

Cautley walkand draw weekend including accomodation.

Friday, 15th March / Sunday, 17th March 2019

Briefly, the outline of the weekend is as follows: • FRIDAY - If accommodation is required you will be able to check in after 2pm on Friday 15th March where you will be able to relax, wander around the stunning grounds of St Marks and marvel at the views. Ruth and Stuart will then serve up a simple evening meal. This will be followed by a relaxed introduction to the weekend which will involve a short demo, informal chat and a glass of your favourite tipple around the fire. (please provide your own alcohol) • SATURDAY - After a good nights sleep, Saturday will start with a continental style breakfast before we venture out into the countryside. Stuart will guide and show you how and what to record into your sketchbooks. (We can supply ingredients for you to make a simple packed lunch but if you have a particular dietary requirement we would ask you to provide your own. There is a fridge available for any perishable food). On the walk you will need: Waterproofs (of course!!) Sturdy walking boots Small Rucksack Camera/phone Fingerless gloves, hat, scarf. Something to sit on (a mat or something similar) Flask for your hot drink of choice Personal drawing kit comprising of a 2B pencil, sharpener and rubber. (We will provide any specialist equipment and your very own A6 sketchbook) The walk will be approximately 3 miles taking about 3 to 4 hours, on easy ground, to complete including drawing and lunch stops. We will end up mid-afternoon at our favourite Inn, the Crosskeys at Cautley where we will all enjoy their fire, hospitality, tea and cakes! Back at St Marks after your walk and refreshments you will have some spare time to relax before returning to the Crosskeys for an evening meal. (The meal is not included in the price of the weekend and the Crosskeys is historically a temperance inn so you will need to provide your own alcohol if desired.) • SUNDAY – After your continental style breakfast you will make your way to the purpose-built studio space at St Marks about 10am to start your watercolour workshop. Ruth will then guide you through the process of creating an original watercolour based on one of the previous days sketches. A simple lunch will be provided before you continue with your painting. Ruth and Stuart will then frame your masterpieces ready for departure at approximately 4.30pm If you don’t need accommodation you are still very welcome to join us on either or both days for the walk and/or workshop. The prices for the weekend are as follows: Accomodation for 2 nights include your room, evening meal on Friday, breakfasts, packed lunch for Saturday walk and lunch/refreshments on Sunday.
